Fifth Sunday of Easter
Welcome
Easter initiates a new day. It anticipates a new heaven and a new earth. The risen Lord is making all things new. In the mystery of holy baptism God has made new people of us. Today the Lord Jesus invites us to see everyone in a new light—through the lens of love.

Spring is here, the weather is slowly warming, the flowers are coming into bloom and Spring Visit Day at Wartburg College is coming soon. The Wartburg College Spring Visit Day is May 11th and is a great way to check out Wartburg while the campus is vibrant and alive. It is a great alternative to visiting later in the summer when there are fewer people around.
Students can register online at https://my.wartburg.edu/ics/Admissions/. Click then on “Visit Campus or Request Information.” Next click on “Visit Days – Special Visitation Days (Fall Visit…).” Finally, select under “Choose your visit day” the option “Spring Visit Day” and fill in your information. Or students can call in and sign-up for the Spring Visit Day by calling 1-800-772-2085 x8264.
May is National Foster Care Month
There are currently more than 5,000 children in Iowa that need a home. The majority of children in the child welfare system have been abused or neglected, but they have potential to succeed in a nurturing environment.
Lutheran Services in Iowa has teamed up with five other state organizations to form Iowa KidsNet. Iowa KidsNet is dedicated to the safety and permanency of children and families and provides recruitment, training, licensing and support to current and potential foster and adoptive families. The ultimate goal is to create permanent connections between children and families.
Pastor David Nelson and his wife Kris are some of the dedicated people currently serving as a foster care family. “Foster care is extremely rewarding and challenging. We are delighted to be foster parents and the benefits definitely outweigh the difficulties,” says Kris. “It is important that we advocate for the future of all children in order for them to grow up to be happy, productive adults.”
To find out more about LSI’s foster care programs, call 1.888.4LSIOWA or visit www.lsiowa.org. For more information on Iowa KidsNet, or if you are interested in becoming a foster parent, call 1.800.243.0756 or visit www.iowakidsnet.com.
St. John’s is making plans, anticipating the outdoor concert Wednesday, June 20, 7:00 p.m. This year the concert features Frankie Valens, a pop star in the 60’s and 70’s. Frankie and his wife Phyllis, an accomplished concert pianist, traveled full time in their gospel music ministry for seven years before coming off the road in 1997. Their ministry is totally a faith ministry. Please spread the word, bring your lawn chairs or blankets and join in this exciting worship experience. (If the weather doesn’t cooperate, the concert will be in the sanctuary.) There will be a Love Offering received for the Valens’ ministry.
