ABOUT HAROLD:
Harold E. Roberts was born in 1922, in Creston Iowa . As a youth he carried newspapers for the Creston News Advertiser (CNA). After high school and three years in the United States Navy he went to work at the CNA, in 1946, as an assistant pressman and was later promoted to pressman.
In 1974 Harold was promoted to Editor and Publisher and retired in 1984 after ten years at the leadership of CNA.
While editor at CNA Harold wrote a column called “Round the Community” which often contained interviews with older citizens and photos telling of Creston and Union County’s historical past. Over the years several people gave Harold photos and postcards to use in his column. When he retired, the CNA felt no need to keep these items, so Harold being a Creston native and interested in the local history could not bear to see the photos thrown out, and brought them home. Harold passed away August 20th, 2006 leaving instructions to his wife “Now don’t throw that stuff away, find a good home for it, that is Creston’s history.”
And so, here are the photos Harold collected over the years, scanned and digitally “cleaned” for everyone’s use and enjoyment. Thank you Harold for saving them and thank you Mrs. Roberts for sharing them.
