OUR PASTOR

Our Pastor is Rev. Eric Johnson. Pastor Eric grew up in Iowa, the son of a Disciples of Christ church minister. He graduated from high school in Adel and went on to college at Northwestern College, where he graduated with a liberal arts bachelors emphasizing literature and philosophy and a minor in art. From there he went on to Western Theological Seminary in Holland, MI and got his Master of Divinity. Shortly afterward he was ordained and called to a the First Reformed Church in Pompton Plains, NJ. After a brief ministry there he returned to Iowa and became our pastor in October, 2004.

Pastor Eric emphasizes God's grace in his ministry and strives to inspire the congregation to grow in their faith and in their capacity to live it out in their lives through acts of service and love. For this reason, the community of faith is very important to Pastor Eric, along with the ways we care for each other, enjoy each other, and do ministry together. He loves preaching & worship, joining with his guitar every week and always trying something new. Pastor Eric is also deeply committed to community ministry and is very involved with the Newton Ministerial Association, serves on the United Way Board, and looks for opportunities to see God's values served in the community.  Pastor Eric appreciates his family time and leisure time highly. He loves spending time in his woodshop, out in nature watching birds, throwing a line in the water, or paddling down a river in his kayak.
