MISSION & MINISTRY
At Community Reformed Church we believe strongly in supporting ministries, both local and global, that we believe in and that are working to make Christ's kingdom visible in the world. The most clear and traditional way that we do this is through supporting specific missionaries with the Reformed Church in America. Currently, we share support with other churches in the RCA for two different missionary families, the Beebouts and the Vises.
We also participate in the extension of Jesus' kingdom in our our own community through the support of mission right here in Newton. We support ministries like the Salvation Army through weekly food collections and through financial contributions. We participate in the local Angel Tree camping programs, sponsoring campers and filling backpacks with the supplies they need for their summer camp. We have monthly Mission of the Month offerings that benefit organizations in our community and around the world. Our members are also involved in countless ways as volunteers.
Finally, we are developing opportunities every year for our members to go on short-term mission trips so that we can grow in our own faith and so that we can join in the ministries of others. Recently a group returned from a trip in conjunction with the RCA and Habitat for Humanity to help rebuild in Boothville. LA after Katrina.

Susan Beebout, a medical doctor, is based in Niger's capital, where she works with the church in developing its health ministries. Marlin & Sally Vis -Israel/Palestine
"It is our hope that we will, by the grace of God, find a way to be the reconciling presence of Christ in the midst of conflict," say Marlin and Marcella (Sally) Vis. "We know that we cannot bring peace to the Middle East. We simply want to come alongside Palestinian Christians and let them know there are people in the United States and Canada who care for them, and who are willing to share in their struggles and suffering. We also want to be witnesses to Palestinians and Israelis of the love of Jesus, and to the Reformed Church in America of the plight of Palestinian Christians."

THE DEACONS' FUND The Deacons fund exists so that Community Reformed Church can directly meet the needs of members and others who find themselves in financial or material difficulty. To seek assistance from the Deacon's Fund, contact Pastor Eric or a Deacon.
HELPING HANDS Helping Hands is a group of faithful women in the church who have gathered every week for years to quilt. They have produced countless quilts over the years that they've donated to shelters, to the police department to keep in the back of patrol cars and to other needs.
VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL VBS is one of our most enjoyable and promising ministries. We partner with the Christian Reformed Church in town to put on a really excellent program for the children in our churches and neighborhoods. Last year we had around 100 kids participate and less than a third of them were from the two churches.
THE FALL FESTIVAL The Fall Festival is one of our favorite times of year at Community Reformed Church. It is a time when we get to cook and entertain and invite in friends and neighbors and all for a good cause. In September we hold a big hog roast and indoor picnic with all the best home cooking. Members and friends and family and neighbors come for dinner and make a free-will donation, if they'd like. They also spend the evening bidding on donated items and gift certificates from our members and from local businesses in the silent auction. Guests get to enjoy several local musical groups throughout the evening as well. All this takes place for the sake of fellowship and to raise money for local non-profit organizations such as Hospice, Salvation Army, Haven of Hope, First Dose, etc.
WITHOUT WALLS Without Walls is an organization of individuals who gather and distribute clothing to individuals and families in need across Newton. They are not members of Community Reformed but operate out of one of our buildings. Their hours of operation are: THURSDAYS FROM 9AM TO 2PM & EVERY 3RD SATURDAY FROM 9:30AM TO 12:30PM. They are located at 212 E. 23rd St. S. and you may call Kathy with questions or to volunteer 791-2932.
HAVEN OF HOPE Haven of Hope is a non-profit organization that grew out of the desire of the consistory (leadership) of the church to transition one of the rental houses on our property into a ministry sight. A separate 501(c)(3) organization was created to provide short term emergency housing to anyone in material need whether they are homeless, transient, have suffered a catastrophe such as a fire or flood or for other reasons. Haven of Hope is totally volunteer led and partners with other churches in Newton and with the Salvation Army.
