If you were able to be in church on the 16th then you had the opportunity to hear about the mission trip to Boothville, LA that 11 members of the church got to take. If you were not, here's a summary: Those serving where: Ted & Vivian Huisman, Ervin & Carolyn Van Waardhuizen, Bob & Alice Samson, Kevin & Jillana DeGoey, Julie Jones, Linda VanDer Kamp & Pricilla Davis. There were several other RCA church groups there, for a total of over 30 workers for the week. While there we worked on 6 houses. Housing is the number one problem of the area. This has been escalated by the recall of the FEMA trailers, which most people in the area are/were living in. Contractors are booked up for years, and many aren't able to do the work themselves. Each day, the work was identified, and volunteers moved among the work and the houses. Key accomplishments for the week for our group where: Installing a breaker box, and passing the electrical inspection, siding most of a house, shingling 2 homes, moving a porch, painting the inside of a house, and putting up drywall in the house with the breaker box. We got to meet several of the home owners, and heard a lot of survival stories. The folks in that area where hit especially hard, since Boothville is actually 50 miles South of New Orleans, and was where the eye of the hurriane hit. It was a very rewarding experience, and of the group, most everyone was a first-timer for a work/mission trip. If this has peaked your interest, we'd love to start planning our next mission trip. If you'd like to be a part of it, please contact Pastor Eric.
