The Methodist church was organized in the fall of 1842, in a one room

school house, near the present site of Colesburg, by the Rev's White and

Clark.

Several churches were built, only to be destroyed by fire, and in 1891, the

present day building was erected.  The church celebrated it's 100th

anniversary in 1942, and their 150th anniversary in 1993.

In May of 1978, the Zion and Emmanuel churches held their last services and

merged with the Colesburg First church to become the Colesburg United

Methodist Church. The church has seen many physical and structural changes

since White & Clark started it in 1842, but is still working to spread

God's word.

Organized in 1847, and named in honor of St. Patrick, famed apostle of

Ireland, marked the beginning of the parish as a mission. Prior to erecting

the first church in Colesburg in 1854, services were held in the home.

Several of the early churches built were destroyed by fire, the last being

in January of 1940. An article taken from the Manchester Press, states that

"Fire of unknown origin, destroyed St. Patrick's Catholic Church, with loss

estimated at $5,000." Father Bohr, immediately rescued the Hosts from the

altar, before the firemen could arrive. Immediately the present day church

was built, with the cornerstone being laid on May 5, 1940.  A history of

the church and it's  former Priests, can be found in the 1993 Colesburg

History Book.
