Platt Cemetery, after restoration
Platt Cemetery is 3 miles southeast
of Colesburg on Hwy. 3. located on land that was owned by Martha
Platt. The first known burial was in 1847 and the last known burial
was in 1901. Today, there are 60 marked graves and 15 unmarked
graves.
Platt Cemetery was restored in 1994 by a group of area residents
after being unkempt for many years. When the restoration began,
in the summer of 1994, there were 6 standing tombstones. A Platt
Cemetery interest group met with the Colony Township Trustees
and formed a cemetery association after the restoration was completed
Platt Cemetery is now receiving county
funds and still relies heavily upon donations. Donations can be
made to the Farmer's Savings Bank in Colesburg to the Platt Cemetery
account.
Platt Cemetery officers are: Lavern
Lammers, President
Merlin Leick, Vice President
Laverne Bockenstedt, Board Members
Karen Lammers, Secretary - Treasurer
