What we do at our meetings.
Each month except for December our club meets.
We seek to provide an atmosphere of fun and learning. Our members
have a wide variety of interests, ranging from looking for "pretty rocks"
to the more intricate aspects of mineral identification, gemstone cutting,
and mineral collecting. To help meet the various needs of this wide
variety of interests, we have programs ranging from pop quizzes on the
identification of various rocks and minerals, to serious lectures on geology.
We often have silent auctions where members donate slabs, specimens, equipment
and even baked goods. The proceeds of these auctions go to help maintain
the club and its activities. Perhaps the best resources for learning
in the club are some of the veteran rockhounds who are members of the club
and who are eager to share their stories and knowledge with others.
As with all groups of this nature we have
a time of business which we try to keep to a minimum. We also normally
have refreshments. But our most important agenda item is learning
and sharing.
