Bill had been separated from his father's family following the divorce of his parents.  Therefore, he knew little about his paternal grandmother's (Mary Elizabeth KLINE) family though he had heard her speak of them on occasions. He did remember, as an early teenager, every once in awhile she would use some German words or phrase so he did have some awareness of her KLINE roots. He also remembered her burial in Alden, Kansas, in 1944 just before he went into the service during WWII.   His uncle Orva Rathbun had kept in contact with him and had given him some ancestry information about his RATHBUN and KLINE roots including a few pictures of the family.  It was with this minimal information to begin with he launched his search for the family.  So far he has not been able to confirm back further than his great great grandfather, John Peter KLINE and his wife, Katherine WAGNER.  He does have an old letter that says Peter's father's name was John.  However, all Pennsylvania Dutch men seemed to have a first name of John and there are many Klines in Pennsylvania.  In 1998 Bill returned to Snyder County, Pennsylvania to see Peter and Katherine's graves and to do some research.
    The movement of the family is from Pennsylvania to the area around Three Rivers, Michigan, to Rice County, Kansas.
There is still a long way to go on this family.
