Instructions For Changing Iowa Telecom Internet DNS Settings

Windows 95, 98 and ME

You may want to print this page before you begin for easy reference.

  1. Click the Start Menu in the lower left hand corner, go to Settings and then Control Panel.
  2. In the Control Panel, click on Network.
  3. In the Configuration section of the Network Properties dialogue, a number of components are listed for each network adapter installed in the computer.
    • The component related to your DSL will be the Ethernet card. It will normally appear with the words Ethernet NIC.
    • The component related to your dial-up will be your modem.
    Highlight the TCP/IP component for this adapter (if present), and click the Properties button to bring up the TCP/IP properties for the adapter.
  4. You might see the following box asking if you are sure you want to access this. Click OK.
  5. Click on the DNS Configuration tab. Make sure that there is a dot in Disable DNS.
  6. Click the OK buttons until you exit all the windows. Reboot your computer, and you are ready to connect to the Internet!
